What is Moon Moo Do?

Moon Moo Do is a comprehensive martial arts system that is derived from the rich and varied martial arts techniques and traditions that have arisen throughout the ages. Moon Moo Do is not a sport, nor is it simply another self-defense method. Moon Moo Do is a complete martial "art" that is dedicated to the cultivation of mental and physical strength, well-being, and to the preservation of traditional martial arts. Moon Moo Do is a combination of Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do, Kung Fu (Shaolin Style), Tai Chi Chuan, and Judo.

For self-defense Moon Moo Do is unsurpassed. It combines kicking, punching, throwing, falling, choking, joint-locking, and a myriad of weapon techniques into a beautiful "hard-soft" style emphasizing speed and fluidity.

Additionally, physical training, meditation, and breathing techniques are employed to improve and maintain health, and to develop internal power. Philosophically, it stresses humility, self-discipline, self-control, loyalty, and respect for others. Incorporated together, these aspects of Moon Moo Do provide the means for attaining a long and healthful life.

What is Tae Kwon Do?

Tae Kwon Do is a form of Martial Art that employs speed and power in its striking techniques, with almost 80% of these techniques relying on kicking ability. Tae Kwon Do not only develops an effective fighting style, it also presents a unique way of developing flexibility.

What is Hap Ki Do?

Hap Ki Do is a defensive Martial Art originating in Korea. It is a Soft Martial Art in that the force of attack is absorbed and turned against the attacker. The techniques of Hap Ki Do include grappling, throwing, and pinning. Joint locks, pressure point tackles, and counter attacks are also used.

What is Kung Fu (Shaolin Style)?

Kung Fu prides itself on the beauty and fluidity of its movements. These preset movements were developed by observing the motions of certain animals and applying these motions to the human anatomy.

What is Tai Chi Chuan?

This is the Chinese Martial Art with thousands of years of history in China as the national exercise. The art movement is very soft, beautiful and fluid like the flow of water, but also can be used as the self-defense in the Martial Arts.

What is Judo?

Judo, meaning "The Gentle Way", uses balance, leverage and timing to pin or throw an opponent. As in all Martial Arts, Judo is a form of mental discipline as well as a method of self-defense.

What is Kendo?

Kendo, the ancient art of swordsmanship, is also taught by Grand Master Lee. Practiced by the samurai of old, Kendo (Gumdo in Korea) has progressed through time to its present sports status.

In addition to acquiring skills with the sword, balance and speed, the student will learn the discipline of hard work, patience and understanding.

How much does it cost?

Moon Moo Do has designed its rates to satisfy everyone's requirements. There are many different programs from which to choose, and one can be found that best fits your needs.

Do I have to sign a contract?

DEFINITELY NOT! There is no obligation to sign a contract.

How much time does it take? I am a very busy person!

Moon Moo Do offers afternoon and evening classes Monday thru Saturday. Each class is 90 minutes long, and it is recommended that beginners attend 3 classes a week. You may come more or less frequently, depending on your schedule. Private instruction is also available at other times that may be more convenient to your schedule.

Does it take a lot of coordination?

Absolutely not! In fact, many people join a Martial Arts program to increase their coordination. Everyone has a different level of natural ability. The most important thing is what you do with your ability and how you strengthen your weaknesses.

Do I have to compete?

No. Moon Moo Do is not a "sports-oriented" school. It is a Martial Arts school teaching skills of self-defense. You are, however, welcome to compete as an individual if you so choose. However, you are never asked to compete as part of your training.

Will someone hit me?

Students do spar within the school, however, only under very controlled circumstances. For beginners, only light contact is allowed. There is NO FULL CONTACT sparring. Bags and targets are provided for the students to practice full power techniques.

Can I lose weight?

Yes, and also improve muscle tone at the same time. Martial Arts has an advantage over aerobics and other weight loss/health programs: You can lose weight, stay healthy, and at the same time, learn valuable skills and knowledge that can help you improve every other facet of your life.

Will it help release tension and stress?

Yes! Physical exercise is frequently recommended to relieve stress-related problems and tensions. Through Martial Arts training, you can learn how to remain calm in a stressful situation and to release tension through relaxation.

May I observe a class?

Certainly! You are welcome at any time; however, you must remember that it is difficult to evaluate an art and its intricacies in only an hour's time.

A person with good mental ability and in poor physical condition with no mental ability is just like a computer. One should strive for Proper Balance Between Mental and Physical.
